Angels take slow start north of the border

Baseball Betting Lines

04/16/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Two teams with surprisingly inverted records square off for the first time in 2010 tonight, when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim visit Rogers Centre for the first of three weekend games with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Angels, who won the American League's West Division title last season and have been a perennial playoff participant for a decade, are 3-7 through their initial 10 games of 2010.

Meanwhile, Toronto, which was fourth in the AL East last year and hasn't made the playoffs since its second World Series title in 1993, is 7-3.

Toronto right-hander Shaun Marcum, a third-round pick in 2003, makes his third start of 2010 while still looking for a first win.

The 28-year-old Missouri native pitched well in outings against Texas and Baltimore - allowing 10 hits and five runs in 13 innings - but got a pair of no-decisions as the Blue Jays beat the Orioles and lost to the Rangers.

He was 9-7 in 25 starts in 2008, a year after he won a career-best 12 games over 38 appearances. Marcum did not pitch in the major leagues last season due to injury.

He is 2-1 in four career starts against the Angels.

For Los Angeles, righty Jared Weaver seeks a third straight strong outing to begin the season.

A first-round draft pick in 2004, Weaver won a career-best 16 games in 33 starts last season while posting a 3.75 earned run average.

He's given up nine hits and four runs in 12 innings against Minnesota and Oakland, getting a win over the Twins on April 5 before a no-decision in the Angels' 4-3 triumph over the Athletics five days later.

Weaver is 5-1 in six starts against the Blue Jays in his career, allowing just 33 hits and striking out 39 in 39 innings.

On Thursday, Robinson Cano blasted two home runs and knocked in three to help New York beat the Angels, 6-2, in the rubber match at Yankee Stadium.

Hideki Matsui smashed a solo home run for Los Angeles.

Scott Kazmir (0-1), who started the season on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder tightness, was activated on Wednesday and gave up six runs on eight hits in four-plus innings to take the loss.

In Toronto, Dana Eveland pitched six solid innings and Alex Gonzalez drove in three runs, as the Blue Jays downed Chicago, 7-3, to split a four-game set.

Gonzalez finished 4-for-5, Jose Bautista scored twice and Travis Snider hit a solo home run for the Jays.

Eveland (2-0) gave up two runs on just three hits with three walks and four strikeouts over six-plus frames.

The Angels split their eight matchups with the Jays last season, but own a 10-7 advantage in the series since the start of the 2008 campaign.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
